it pisses me off when people say alex gaskarth is selling out.
not that i hate on ashley cause i don’t. but it does. because the thing about music is that you people have no idea what it’s like to be a musician. it’s not like it’s all just the lyrics you write and the fans. it’s about so much more than that, and you guys are too blinded by your need for rock stars to be some sort of hero for you that you can’t see it.
being a musician is a job. it’s not a lifestyle, or a hobby, or a passion; not completely. it is first and foremost a job that people want to get paid for. the reason that people like Alex Gaskarth conform to label needs is because when you’re on a big label, you get what you wanted. people see your music and are affected by it. you have fans, and money; it’s the whole package as long as you’re willing to do a little work on recreating your self image.
if you were given the choice between a million dollars a year and staying exactly the way that you were, would you give it all up? no, I don’t think most of you would. when it comes down to it it’s a risk that is worth taking. no one is ever going to stay the same forever, and rock stars are just human. in fact, in order to live the life and not go crazy, you have to be a little egotistical. that’s the only way you can live with your life as a constant fishbowl.
i’m not sure if alex ever reads the shit that you write and cares, but i bet on a bad day he thinks about all of the things that he’s seen and all of the people telling him he’s fucking shit up and gets more down. if you really love someone you realize that they can’t be who they were when they were 18, forever. they have to grow up, and realize that sometimes the truth is; money can be more important than refusing to conform. conforming isn’t really always a bad thing; normal, sane people do it all the time.
people who never conform to anything are lying to themselves. you aren’t original, and your rebellion isn’t really rebellion if it’s been done so many times it’s popular. get over yourself everyone. it’s not about what everyone on tumblr or twitter says about someone that makes them a good person. it’s not even how they act in front of a camera that makes them a good person.
some people deal with the public lifestyle by retreating into themselves. if alex gaskarth doesn’t want to show everything to everyone all the time, i say go for it.
… has anyone even bothered to check that all time low really did sign the rights of the song over to big time rush before getting mad.
there’s a huge difference between copyright infringement, grounds for suing in a court of law over grounds of theft of intellectual property, and then there is when someone takes the rights of a song, a “sample”, and signs the rights over to someone else to use and do what they will with. It’s not like co-ownership, but they can do what they want within reason.
i’ve never made a bet but we gamble with desire.
i want this tattoo.
